Where it began

In 2020, Elizabeth created an entirely unique artwork work with the sole purpose of spreading joy and togetherness across the globe. Gifted all over the world, these Rainbow Bees were placed in different cities and countries to evoke hope and joy during a difficult time. These beautiful, unique works are a gift and will never be sold.

connection through art

Ancient traditions saw the rainbow as a bridge between peoples or worlds. With the rainbow arched gently around the symbol of Elizabeth’s hometown of Manchester, England, this is her unique way of building new bridges between people in different places.

“The bee is significant for me for many reasons. I currently live in Texas, so the bee was a way to honour my home city of Manchester, UK, of which the bee is the emblem. As time has gone on, being unable to go home and be with family and friends has been increasingly difficult. I enclosed the bee in a rainbow because ancient traditions saw the rainbow as a bridge between peoples or worlds, a way of connecting beliefs and cultures by a bridge of light, inspiration and commonality. I wanted a way to unify people at a time when the divide feels so heavily pushed on us in the media; politicising our issues and differences when in fact, we are all equal.”

- Elizabeth Waggett, 2021

where we are and what’s to come

The first bee was left in Central Park, New York City in June of 2020,, quickly followed by Los Angeles and Manchester. Others are sitting in different cities across the globe including, Beijing, Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, London, Singapore and Barcelona, all waiting patiently for the chance to spread a little light to an unsuspecting stranger.

As these bees find their new homes, Elizabeth will continue to share their locations on her social media platforms as they are placed and shared. She hopes that if you come across one, it will bring a little more light to you and yours.
